Saturday's tasting was on Acrobat 2009 Pinot Gris and Sirius 2008 Red Bordeaux. Customers enjoyed both wines. Acrobat was crisp and refreshing for the hot weather and Sirius Red was perfect for grilling.
2009 Acrobat Pinot Gris ($11) is an Oregon wine by King Estate. I was not able to detect an aroma in the plastic tasting cup. However, the flavor was tropical fruit finishing with citrus. Nice acidity.
Winemaker's Notes: Color - pale straw with golden highlights. Nose - melon, green apple, citrus, spice, and tropical fruit. Flavors -
tangerine, lemon, kiwi and pear. Mouthfeel - crisp entry with nice balance between acidity and sugar, round and full mid-palate, clean refreshing finish.
In all honesty I was not thrilled to be tasting Sirius Red Bordeaux ($11) since it was not well received during the last tasting (see my review of May 31st). But, I had no choice. I was surprised with the wine this time around; there was no bitterness. This is a Bordeaux blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. The aroma was cherry and the flavors were smoke, tobacco, and spice. Light tannins. Nicely balanced and medium finish. The bitterness that I, and some customers, tasted last tasting were not there. I enjoyed it and customers enjoyed it.
