Visiting L'Aventure winery in Paso Robles was wonderful! They are a small production winery with excellent wines. Tasting L'Aventure's wine just made Dave and I want more. In fact, we are going to join their wine club. Some of their wines are sold in the stores, so I have to ask my friend Jon (the distributor who recommend we visit here) where I can purchase them.
L'Aventure 2010 Côte à Côte Rosé is 64% Mourvedre, 26% Grenache, and 10% Syrah. I will always try a Rosé in the hopes of finding one that is not too dry and that I will enjoy. This was it! Not overly dry, mild aroma and light fruit flavor. Would pair perfectly with food. Enjoyable. I was told that the L'Aventure Estate Rosé has more fruit on the palate so I'm dying to try it.
Winemaker's Notes: The subtle pink satin color is beautiful! This gentle shadow of our Côte à Côte offers a bouquet of red spring flowers with a tight mineral note in the nose that lead to a soft entry in the mouth. Crushed rose petals, violet notes, and red berries carry long and finish cleanly.
L'Aventure 2006 Optimus, a blend of 51% Syrah, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot. The grapes are both estate grown and purchased. A delicious aroma of cassis and blueberry. Flavors of dark fruit with a hint of licorice. Nice balance.
Winemaker's Notes: Dark ruby in color, with wax and licorice surrounding aromas of crushed red and black fruit. A good attack is followed by a flow of fruit and acacia, finishing with a spicy, “pain grille” flavor. Cellar for 7-10 years.
L'Aventure 2008 Estate Côte à Côte, a blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Syrah, and 20% Mourvedre. I could get lost in the aroma of blueberry, dark fruit, earthiness and cassis; it was heavenly. The flavor was spice and earth. Nicely balanced.
Winemaker's Notes: Features tea and tobacco leaf, garrigue, and jambon in the nose, as well as blueberries and pencil shavings. The mouth is full of spicy berries, licorice, and red currants. This wine is impeccably integrated.
L'Aventure 2008 Estate Cuvée also a blend (50% Syrah, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 14% Petit Verdot). When this was poured you couldn't help but notice the luscious dark color. It had a wonderful aroma of black cherry and flavors of black cherry and spice. Also nicely balanced.
Winemaker's Notes: Purple/black color, with aromas of cedar box, wild blackberries, black cherry, and fresh, raw beef. Anise and cola flavors ride the big attack, resolving themselves in tight flavors of blueberries and acacia in the enormous middle palate, finishing long with orange rind, spice and everything else.
