Apothic Red, 2009 and Coppola Rosso, 2009

In previous reviews of red blends I've mentioned that there are other red blends I enjoy more.  Below are two of my favorites.  I often recommend these to customers.  Customers enjoy them and both wines sell like crazy. The prices are also quite reasonable.

Apothic 2009 Red ($9.99)  is a California wine and a blend of Zinfandel, Merlot, and Syrah.  The aroma is a great, intense cherry.  The flavor is black cherry and spice with hints of chocolate and vanilla.

Winemaker's Notes: "A captivating blend of three distinct grapes, with the dark fruit flavors of Syrah, brambly spice of Zinfandel, and a smooth elegance of Merlot.

Apothic Red reveals intense fruit aromas and flavors of rhubarb and black cherry that are complemented by hints of mocha, chocolate, brown spice and vanilla. The plush, velvety mouthfeel and smooth finish round out this intriguing, full-bodied red blend."

Coppola Rosso 2009 ($8.99) is from Francis Ford Coppola, Sonoma, California. It is a blend of 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Petite Sirah, 25% Syrah, and 23% Zinfandel. An aroma of cherry and strawberry, with a flavor of jammy fruit and spice, with a hint of mocha. Light tannins.  I have been enjoying Coppola Rosso for three years.  It has not failed me yet and has been consistently delicious.

Winemaker's Notes:  The supple texture and rich, juicy flavors of plum, cherries, mocha, and strawberry jam make this wine a perfect accompaniment to almost any meal.

Apothic Red has more spice on the palate and Coppola Rosso has more fruit. Both are delicious with food, for sipping and relaxing.  Wonderful everyday, affordable red blends. You won't be sorry with either one.
