Cupcake Prosecco, Cupcake Pinot Noir 2009, and Vendange Symphony (NV)

First off - HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!  I hope you enjoy the day and relax, especially with your favorite glass of wine.

Saturday's tasting was just wonderful.  A great selection of wine for Mother's Day celebrations and dinner.  Customer's were so much fun to talk with.

Cupcake ... what can I say.  Customers are in love with this winery.  I remember when it first came on the market and customers purchased the wine because of the name and label.  Then after tasting the wines realized it was a very nice wine and the price point was perfect.

Cupcake Prosecco ($9.80) is from Italy and a new varietal for Cupcake.  This was in the stores for the holidays (2010) and was difficult to keep on the shelves.  A very nice bubbly that is refreshing.  It is dry with a mineral flavor and hint of lemon. Pairs perfectly with food.  I enjoy this and so did the customers.  If you enjoy Prosecco, then this is for you.

Winemaker's Notes:  Our Prosecco is light and refreshing with a nose that shows hints of white peach, grapefruit and honey-dew melon. The fine effervescence gives way to creamy flavors of ripe lemons and refined citrus notes with a toasted brioche finish. Medium froth, our Prosecco is reminiscent of lemon meringue pie. Pairs well with gorgonzola crostini and melon wrapped in prosciutto.

Cupcake Pinot Noir, 2009 ($9.80) is from Central Coast, California, and is also a new varietal for Cupcake.  A very light red color and thin mouthfeel, it has a nice cherry aroma.  The flavor has a hint of cherry and spice.  Customers enjoyed this wine as well.

Winemaker's Notes:  Notes are not available for 2009, but in 2008 (this was a blend of 96% Pinot Noir, 3% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon) ... "Our Cupcake Central Coast Pinot Noir has the aroma of cherries carries through the palate with a touch of red currants and a hint of spices. It’s reminiscent of a cherry cupcake with currant coulis.  This wine pairs well with lamb kabobs, smoked sausage, or your favorite mushroom risotto.

Lastly, Vendange Symphony (NV) ($9 for 1.5L) from California is a blend of Muscate de Alexandria (a grape variety found in California in 1948) and Grenache.  A very lively and distinct aroma of Moscato, but don't let this fool you.  It is not sweet by any stretch and it pairs perfectly with food.  A flavor slightly reminiscent of a Sauvignon Blanc but not as fruit forward.  Customers enjoyed this wine.

Winemaker's Notes:  Vendange Symphony is a lovely pale straw color with tempting jasmine and juniper aromas that invite you to enjoy the sweet full body and crisp fruit finish, with hints of pear. It′s perfect paired with appetizers and light meals.
